As far as enduring stars who have weathered the storm of the Hollywood spotlight for decades go, they don’t get much bigger than Jane Fonda.

Soon to turn 85, the iconic actress has been watched and loved by audiences for decades. It’s testament not only to her popularity but also her character that she’s managed to remain a fan firm favorite for as long as she has.

Simply put, Fonda is adored worldwide, so it truly was a terrible blow when she announced that she had been diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

Messages of support flooded in for the actress, who has been active in the movie scene since all the way back in 1959!

Despite fears for her health, she’s now offered an update as to how her treatment is going. Suffice it to say a lot of people are going to be happy indeed …

The entertainment industry held a collective, sorrowful breath back in September, when Grace and Frankie star Jane Fonda announced in a heartfelt update that she had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and started chemotherapy.

The Oscar-winner shared a post on her Instagram confirming for the world that she was battling cancer, but admitted that she was hopeful she would win the fight.

“This is a very treatable cancer,” Fonda said at the time. “80% of people survive, so I feel very lucky.”

She added: “I’m also lucky because I have health insurance and access to the best doctors and treatments. I realize, and it’s painful, that I am privileged in this. Almost every family in America has had to deal with cancer at one time or another and far too many don’t have access to the quality health care I am receiving and this is not right.”

The actress wrote that she has been undergoing chemo for six months, and has been “handling treatments quite well.”

Fonda also said she would not let the disease hold her back from the causes she is passionate about. In addition to her acting career, Fonda has been a champion of climate activism, and said she will continue her campaigns in spite of the disease.

“Cancer is a teacher and I’m paying attention to the lessons it holds for me,” Fonda wrote. “One thing it’s shown me already is the importance of community. Of growing and deepening one’s community so that we are not alone. And the cancer, along with my age — almost 85 — definitely teaches the importance of adapting to new realities.”

Now, though, it appears all those concerned and give a sigh of relief, after Fonda confirmed in a new blog post that her oncologist has said she can discontinue treatments.

“I am feeling so blessed, so fortunate. I thank all of you who prayed and sent good thoughts my way. I am confident that it played a role in the good news,” she wrote on Thursday.

Speaking on her chemotherapy, the 84-year-old said: “I’m especially happy because while my first four chemo treatments were rather easy for me, only a few days of being tired, the last chemo session was rough and lasted two weeks making it hard to accomplish much of anything.”

I don’t know about you, but I think this is absolutely fantastic news. Jane Fonda is a national treasure, and one I hope will live for many more years to come.

Please, join us in congratulation Fonda on winning her fight with cancer.
