Sonya Eddy, best known for her work on “General Hospital”, has sadly passed away aged 55.

According to the soap star’s close friend, Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer, Eddy died on Monday night.

In an Instagram post, Spencer shared a photo of Eddy accompanied by the text: “The world lost another creative angel. Her legions of ‘General Hospital’ fans will miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, friends, and fans.”

Eddy rose to relative fame thanks to her role as no-nonsense nurse Epiphany Johnson in hit soap “General Hospital”. Having landed the part back in 2006, she featured on and off all the way through until 2022, as well as reprising the role in a spin-off named “General Hospital: Night Shift”.

All told, Sonya appeared in a whopping 543 episodes.

Her TV credits don’t end there though. No, the 55-year-old had a catalogue of minor appearances in well-known shows over the years, including “Seinfeld”, “The Middle”, and “Home Improvement”.

The soap star was known to be prolific when it came to keeping fans updated via her Instagram page, but had not posted since August before her passing.

When news of her death broke yesterday, fans and peers flocked to social media to pay their respects.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Sonya Eddy’s family at the moment.
