The connection between owner and pet is unparalleled—they’re the constant companions, constantly there for the journey no matter what life throws at us. And, while you want your parents, siblings, uncles and aunts to love your spouse, it’s equally critical that they tolerate your pets. Right? I have 2 dogs. One is 12 years old and the other is 7 years old. I’ve been with my girlfriend for 4 years. My younger dog has separation anxiety. If I’m not home my other dog must be there. This makes it a little hard when my other dog has some sort of appointment.
These past few months she’s been asking me to take my youngest to the shelter or to put her down because she can’t handle when she screeches. She used to screech really loud when I would come home from work. A week ago she said “either she goes or I do”. I caved and told her I would take her to a shelter but after March 5th. I have zero intentions of doing so. My dog has been getting a lot better.
My girlfriend was recently diagnosed bipolar. I’m not sure if this affects her feelings towards my dog. On another note, we adopted a cat about 3 years ago and she’s talking about putting her down because she also has anxiety but it’s nothing compared to my dog.
Also, it might be my imagination, but my dog started acting like this since she came into our lives. It’s the weirdest thing. Last year my girlfriend was gone for most of the year and when she was gone, my dogs and cat were so chill.
I guess my question is, what would you guys do? Is it bad that I choose my dog over my girlfriend? I love my dog so much and I know she would fight a hippo for me.
