Death is a reality of life that no one can escape. It is never easy finding out about someone’s passing. Dr. Charles Stanley passed away at age 90, and his life was filled with wonderful accomplishments which can be celebrated even today.

Dr. Charles Stanley was a prominent pastor, author, and Christian broadcaster. He passed away on Tuesday morning, April 18, at the age of 90 years old. Dr. Stanley spent 65 years of his life in ministry, trying to spread the message of Jesus Christ through his Bible-teaching ministry.
He led the First Baptist Church Atlanta for 50 years, only stepping back from the role in 2020. The Atlanta church now has members who hail from 98 countries of origin, making this church the most ethnically diverse congregation in the world.
His son, Andy Stanley also founded the North Point Community Church in Alpharetta, Georgia where he works as a senior pastor.
Dr. Stanley founded In Touch Ministries in 1977 with the aim of spreading the message of the bible through broadcast media. He pioneered radio and television programs that spread the message of the gospel.
A tribute to the late Dr. Stanley from In Touch Ministries read, “In Touch Family, this morning, God called our beloved pastor, Dr. Charles Stanley, home to heaven. Dr. Stanley lived a life of obedience and is now receiving the joy of his soul—seeing his Savior face-to-face. Please join us in praying for the Stanley family.”
CBN Founder and Regent Unversity Chancellor Pat Robertson also lamented the late doctor’s death saying “I join with thousands of friends of Charles Stanley to mourn his passing. He was a great man of God, a wonderful Bible teacher, and his influence reached all around the world. To those of us who know Jesus, we don’t mourn the fact that one of his saints comes home, although at the same time, that doesn’t take the sorrow from our hearts.”
In his nine decades on earth, Dr. Stanle gained acclaim both as an author and a Christian broadcaster. He sold 10 million copies of his more than 70 books, with his latest book having been published in 2023.
While the “In Touch” program is broadcast on more than 4,000 television, radio, and satellite networks and stations worldwide. The sermons from the program have been translated into over 120 languages.
Revered Johnnie Moore, who serves as the president of the Congress of Christian Leaders also tweeted about the late Dr. Stanley, he wrote, “Some of my own earliest memories are of being in my grandmother’s house, and she would always have Charles Stanley on television. Like millions of others, I think she watched every single one of his sermons, twice.”
The National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), which is the country’s leading Christian communicators also mourned his passing.
“Dr. Stanley leaves behind a lasting legacy as a torch-bearer and trailblazer of Gospel ministry and Christian broadcasting,” stated NRB President & CEO Troy A. Miller. “We were blessed to have such a faithful servant of the Lord as a veteran NRB member and a faithful supporter and encourager of the work of NRB. Our condolences and prayers are with Dr. Stanley’s family. Although we mourn his loss in this life, it is a joy to know that he is with his Lord and Savior.”
Hundreds if not thousands of tributes and remembrances of the late Dr. Stanley popped up on social media after news of his passing hit the public. He was preceded in death by his former wife Anna Stanley with whom he divorced in the year 2000. She passed away in November 2014.
Both of them are survived by their son Andy Stanley; daughter Becky Stanley Broderson; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and half-sister Susie Cox.
