The accomplished American actor, widely celebrated for his iconic roles in beloved series such as The Bob Newhart Show, Elf, The Librarian, and the hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory, has recently become a widower.

Comedy legend Bob Newhart said goodbye to the love of his life in April. The family released a statement on Twitter talking about how heartbroken they were over their loss.

”We lost our beloved Ginnie Quinn Newhart – Wife, Mother and Grandmother on April 23rd, 2023 after a long battle with illness,” the statement read.

”She was our rock and we miss her terribly,” Newhart said.

Bob Newhart and Ginnie had been married for 60 years. They met on a blind date in 1962 set up by their friend and fellow comedy icon Buddy Hackett. The couple subsequently tied the knot in 1963.

His wife Ginnie was by his side throughout his television career. When he starred as a clinic psychologist Bob Hartley on The Bob Newhart Show from 1972 to 1978. And later in Newhart when he played an innkeeper in Vermont named Dick Loudon from 1982 to 1990.

Ginnie has been credited to coming up with the finale for tne Newhart series where it was revealed that everything had been a dream and Dick Loudon existed merely in the imagination of Bob Hartley.

The twist in the finale has long become one of the most favorite moments in television history for a lot of people. Ginnie would often appear in the background of a lot of shows for Newhart. In the 1970s game show Tattletales, the couple would often appear together.

The couple shared four children Robert, Tim, Jennifer and Courtney. They also have grandchildren.

When questioned about whether he had any remorse regarding his marriage to his wife, Newhart disclosed that he held no regrets whatsoever.

Instead, he expressed the desire to have married his wife at an earlier juncture if financial circumstances had permitted.

”If I could’ve afforded it, I would’ve gotten married earlier. When my first record came out and hit number one, I didn’t really have anyone to share it with. It would’ve been great if Ginny and I could’ve shared that, but I couldn’t afford to get married,” he said in 2019.
