Celebrity Chef Michael Chiarello, who was known for his magnetic personality on Food Network, has died at age 61 years old.
His family released a public statement that mourned his loss. It read, “We deeply mourn the loss of our beloved patriarch Michael. His culinary brilliance, boundless creativity, and unwavering commitment to family were at the core of his being.”
The statement went on, “He brought people together through the joy of shared meals, fostering lasting memories around the table. As we navigate this profound loss, we hold dear the moments we cherished with him, both in his kitchens and in our hearts. His legacy will forever live on in the love he poured into every dish and the passion he instilled in all of us to savor life’s flavors.”
Chiarello had a long career in the world of fine dining. The celebrated chef started his career in fine dining in the 1980s. He first appeared in front of a camera in 2001 for his first show on PBS called Season by Season.
In 2003, he began a new show for the Food Network titled Easy Entertaining. He then began filming a show called NapaStyle in 2004, which premiered on the sister channel for the Food Network called, at the time, Fine Living Network. Later on the Fine Living Network changed its name to the Cooking Channel.
Chiarello was also the author of multiple cookbooks in his career. His last cookbook, titled Michael Chiarello’s Live Fire: 125 Recipes for Cooking Outdoors, was published in 2013.
Chiarello was rushed to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa, California, where he passed away. He had spent a week in the hospital being treated for an acute allergic reaction, which led him to a state of anaphylactic shock. The food he had an allergic reaction to and other details surrounding his death have not been made public as of yet.
Fans were devastated at the news. One fan wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), “Oh no! I used love his show on food network. RIP and condolences to the Chiarello family.” While another shared a person experience, writing, “One of my first dates with my now wife was at Michael Chiarello’s Tra Vigne in Napa. It was one of those perfect meals that we still talk about. He opened our eyes to what a restaurant experience could be and set the standard for us for fine dining. Tragic loss.”
