A mother and daughter duo who have been missing for over five years has finally been found alive in Harnett County. The North Carolina duo was living on a property owned by the kid’s paternal grandfather. The property on Lemon Lane in Bunnlevel was situated 25 miles from their location of disappearance. The woman’s father says he had no idea of his daughter’s whereabouts since she went missing in 2016.

Authorities identified the two as Amber Renaye Weber, who was 21 at the time of her disappearance, and Miracle Smith, who was just 1 when she went missing. Both Amber and Miracle have not been seen since December 4, 2016, in the 1200 block of Martindale Drive in Fayetteville. In addition to these two, officers found a second child, who Amber reportedly gave birth to while she was missing.

They were reported missing back in January 2017 but despite the efforts of officials, Miracle and Amber could not be found and the case eventually went “cold.” Her father, Monty Weber revealed that Amber had been living with her sister before her disappearance and then one night she left home. “Our daughter [her sister] called and said she took off in the middle of the night,” recalled Weber. “Didn’t bring clothes or nothing, just grabbed the baby. We figured somebody came and picked her up.”

But then on February 26, 2021, Fayetteville police along with the US Marshals Service began working on the case again. In the due course of the investigation, they build a weapon case against Joe Smith, arrived on his property this year, confiscated 4 firearms, and arrested him on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Joe Smith is said to be Miracle’s grandfather. No other changes have been made against him.

In the due course of the arrest, officers found the three, who were said to be in good condition. The trio was living in a trailer on the property which contained multiple homes, the U.S. Marshals told CBS 17. Although they still don’t know all the details surrounding Amber and Miracle’s disappearance, they celebrated the positive outcome of the missing case.

“A lot of times these cases end in tragedy, or you don’t find them, or they end up being deceased, and yesterday to be able to say that she’s alive, and she’s well, and we got her and now she’s being taken care of, that’s a win for us every day,” shared Michael East, the US Marshal for the Eastern District of North Carolina. The two children have since been turned over to the Harnett County Department of Social Services for assistance.

As for Amber’s father, he is relieved that his beloved daughter and grandchildren were found safe, adding that these past few years have been quite “hard.” He is now looking forward to meeting his daughter and grandchildren. “We’re happy,” he said according to Daily Mail. “We’d like to see our grandbabies… we’d like to see her.”
