World War II veteran Alfred Rogers doesn’t find himself lost for words very often, but when he saw the family and friends who had gathered for his 100th birthday celebrations he found himself speechless.

The great grandfather from Crossville, Tennessee, celebrated his big birthday at the Cumberland County Elks Lodge #2751 with a host of loved ones and members of the community on Saturday.

“There are not many times in my life I have been speechless, but this may be as close as I’ll ever get,” Rogers said, as per 11 Alive News. “I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this.

“This is something I’ll never forget,” added Rogers, who celebrated his 100th birthday on March 5.

He said he was happy to go into his 100th birthday surrounded by love and grateful as “not many people reach this.” The centenarian says he has many wonderful memories but one in particular stands out.

“I got to hold my first great-grand baby,” Rogers said. “She’s a 3-month-old little girl.”

His daughter, Betsy Rogers, said it’s hard to believe her father has reached such a milestone.

“It doesn’t feel like 100 years because he does so well. He still lives independently, he still drives.

“He’s tough, he’s loving and highly intelligent,” she added.

Rogers said he goes on new adventures in his camper all the time. He said he was ready for his next trip coming up soon.
