Many of us dream of repaying our parents for all the love and support they provided us as we were growing up. That repayment can take many different forms, and no matter how big or small the gesture it’s always appreciated.

After signing with the Washington Commanders, one of the NFL’s newest players decided to surprise his mother with the sweetest “thank you” he could think of: a new house.

“Momma, you ain’t gotta stress about rent anymore,” Phidarian ‘Phil’ Mathis wrote on his Instagram.

After joining the Commanders as a second round pick in April, the former Alabama defensive tackle signed a four-year $7.506 million contract with the Commanders. His four-year contract came with a $2.639 million signing bonus.

What would you if you were 24 years old and just handed over $2 million?

Mathis used some of his signing bonus to purchase his mother a home.

He shared images and a sweet video of his mother seeing her house for the first time on his Instagram.

Congratulations to both mother and son!

Mathis could have done anything with the money he received as a signing bonus, but he decided to use a portion on his mother. What a wonderful young man.
