It was only in April 2020 when Richard Gere welcomed his second child with his wife, Alejandra Silva. At their ranch on Pound Ridge, located just outside New York, the couple welcomed their baby boy a little over a year after their firstborn who came in February 2019, according to HELLO!

Gere, who is now 71, and his wife, 38-year-old Spanish activist, Silva, both have children from their previous relationships. And in terms of raising a blended family together, the couple have been quite busy since they exchanged vows in April, 2018. “I feel like I’m in a true fairytale. Without a doubt, I feel like the luckiest woman in the world,” said Silva soon after their romantic wedding ceremony was held on Gere’s ranch.

Although the couple seem extremely happy together, sources reveal that Gere has a few worries on his mind when it comes to the children he shares with Silva. Becoming a father at his age comes with the fear of not being able to see his little ones grow up. “He knows he’s EXTREMELY old to be a father,” a source told RadarOnline. “He can do the math — and it’s made him very aware his time is limited.”

Gere’s first child Homer, is now in his early 20s, whom he had with his ex-wife, Carey Lowell, as reported by USA Today.

From 2002 to 2016, Gere was married to the actress and former model, during which he was able to be a part of Homer’s life in his own right. However, he is afraid that he won’t get the same opportunity with the children he has fathered with Silva.

The Pretty Woman actor had to wait a while before he could become a father again, due to the lengthy divorce he had with Lowell. After their marriage came to an end, Gere wanted to be sure he was with the right woman if ever he had the chance to be a father again.

“Richard wanted to be sure that he had found the right woman before he had another child,” the source added. However, “when he found out they were pregnant, he realized how difficult it would be for him to raise a young child.”

What comforted Gere, according to the insiders, was his firm belief in Buddhism and the idea of reincarcation. The couple had met the Dalai Lama while Silva was pregnant with their second child and even received a blessing from him, according to Today.

When Gere got in touch with the Dalai Lama after finding out he was going to raise his children well past his middle-aged years, the actor found solace in believing that if he passes away before his kids grown up, he would still return to be a part of their lives in some way.

The source said, The Dalai Lama reminded him that, as a Buddhist, he believes in reincarnation. He’s found some comfort in the fact that should he die before the child becomes an adult, he will return in some form to experience him or her! That gave him some peace.”

In the past, Silva has also touched upon the age gap between her and her famous husband. She had known him since she was young and the actor was a family friend for a long time. When they reconnected in 2014, they started dating and Silva revealed that the age gap couldn’t stop them from falling in low.

“Our karma was attracted the moment we saw each other,” Silva told Hola! in 2015, as quoted by People. “I’m not ignoring our age difference and what it means to be with a Hollywood star, but when there’s such a strong karmic energy, the problems disappear.”

Born over 33 years apart, Silva still believes they were meant to spend some of their best years with each other in this lifetime. “We are 33 years apart…” she told Hola! “It had to be that way in this lifetime. He has promised me at least twenty good years!”

Although the actor might be the one with more greys in his hair than her, Silva revealed that she’s the one who’s kept on her toes whilst trying to keep up with him. “I have to confess that he has much more energy than me, is much more active, it’s hard to keep up with him… He’s not human!”
