Hollywood actor Jeremy Renner may be out of critical condition and starting on the long road to recovery, but there remain very real fears that he will never walk properly again, according to reports.
The 52-year-old Renner was seriously injured in an accident involving his snowplow on New Year’s Day, and has remained in hospital ever since.
As per sources, Renner was at his home in Lake Tahoe when he assisted in trying to help a neighbor whose vehicle was trapped after heavy snowfall. The Hawkeye star was then crushed by his own snowplow, resulting in grievous injuries to his legs.
Fortunately, one of the star’s neighbors is a doctor, and was able to apply a tourniquet – even so, Renner lost large amounts of blood, and after being airlifted to hospital in Reno, Nevada, was in critical condition.
Thanks to urgent surgery, Renner survived the accident, though now faces an extensive recovery battle.
Sources close to ExtraTV said that it’s a “miracle [Renner] is alive,” and “it’s going to be a very long road to recovery.”
The actor’s family also thanked “The incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City Mayor Hillary Schieve and the Carano and Murdock families.”
In the days following his hospitalization, Renner took to social media to thank well wishers, as well as the medical team who are taking care of him.
In his first Instagram update, the star wrote: “Thank you all for your kind words. 🙏. Im too messed up now to type. But I send love to you all.”
He later followed up with “Thank you Renowned Medical ICU team for beginning this journey.”
Yet though Renner may be out of the woods where any serious threat to his life may be concerned, his future will almost certainly be one wherein he’s forced to adapt to some degree.
As per reports, The Hurt Locker actor’s closest friends and family are concerned that his legs may not work like they did before. Indeed, some speculation even insists Renner may need to have one of his legs amputated.
An insider is said to have told RadarOnline:
“Jeremy’s already had two delicate surgeries. But there are serious doubts he will ever be able to walk right again — or at all. His loved ones worry the damage was significant enough to prevent him from moving the way he used to — that is, if he doesn’t lose the leg altogether.”
