Mothers are special kind of super heroes who are filled with love and are hardworking. It’s one of the hardest jobs with many responsibilities, no fixed timings, no retirement and mostly unappreciated.
For single moms the responsibilities become double. They may be single but not alone just like the story of this mom and daughter who have been together in the ups and down. This daughter is definitely proud of her tough, wonderful, positive and inspiring mother. (Thanks Khloe for sharing this story with us through our page).

I grew up with a single mother.
My father was in the picture, kind of, but for the most part it was just me and her. She was a senior in high school when she had me, and she worked three jobs to support us- we would wake up around 4:30 AM and go to her first job, where she printed newspapers. In the afternoons, she would paint the railings on the balconies of local dorms on our town’s college campus. And at night, she worked the overnight shift at McDonald’s- the only job she never took me to.
She went back to school when I started kindergarten, on a full-ride scholarship that required her to maintain a 3.7 GPA, and somehow she did. For YEARS she balanced all three jobs, her GPA, and raised me- and she ended up graduating on time, at the top of her class.
After she graduated she got a job that paid really well, but during those years we were broke. I was always aware of our situation and saw how hard she was working and it never bothered me, but point being, there was a period of a little over 3 weeks where every single night for dinner we had Kraft mac & cheese because that’s all we could afford. One box, every night, for 22 days.
It’s been years since then and I am fully grown and moved out.
Today she called me, and as soon as I answered I could hear her tears. She told me her “daily task” for the day was to clean out her pantry, so she took everything out to deep clean the shelves and realized her groceries, overflowed her counter tops.
She said she had groceries covering every square inch of counter space and she had to start putting them on the floor, and that’s where she collapsed into a pile of tears because she was so overwhelmingly grateful.
She asked me if I remembered the mac & cheese. I told her of course, and we talked about how it’s still our go-to comfort food and we reminisced some more about our good ol’ days before hanging up. And right when we hung up I burst into tears because I am just so proud of her.
She poured every inch of herself into raising me and giving me the best life she could- and here she is, years later, still reaping the rewards and I am still in awe of her humbleness and gratefulness over the small things and I just have to get this off my chest because I always knew I lucked out in the mom department- she is, and always has been, Superwoman to me.
But it’s moments like this where it just hits me a little more and I know I said it already, but I’ll say it again and again and again and again.
I am so proud of her.
