Much participent of TLC’s I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant, Caitlyn Bradley too had no clue that she was pregnant. The Buffalo, New York mom was seven months along when she finally learned that she was about to welcome her baby. But the way she found out about it way bizarre than her not realizing that she’s expecting.
Back in 2020, she shared her story on Reddit anonymously according to the Independent. She was reportedly has some coeliac’s disease, a gluten allegry, which would often cause bloating and heartburn. Additionally, she hadn’t gotten her period for years as she’s been on the pill. That’s why Caitlyn never suspected anything out of the ordinary when she became pregnant.
“I told myself I’d go to the doctor after the pandemic, due to fear of going anywhere near a doctors office during this time,” she shared on Reddit. But then a trip to to the bathroom left her with a lot of troubling questions. “We have a porcelain toilet seat in our downstairs bathroom that mysteriously turned blue the one day. Thinking it was my Young Living [toilet] cleaner I had just purchased, I tried scrubbing it off with no luck,” she added.

When the blue stain wouldn’t come off, she Googled it and was shocked to learn that pregnancy hormones often have that affect on porcelain toilet seats. According to a registered nurse with the International Hyperhidrosis Society, Angela Ballard, the blue color may be a result of Chromhidrosis, which is a disorder of the sweat glands.

“Chromhidrosis is a disorder of the sweat glands that usually manifests with coloured sweat on the face, in the underarms, or on the areola of the breasts (the darker circle of skin around the nipples),” she told Metro. “Sweat may be yellow, green, blue, brown, or black. The colours are due to a pigment produced in the sweat glands called lipofuscin.”

She added, “Lipofuscin is common in human cells, but for some reason people with chromhidrosis have higher concentrations of lipofuscin or lipofuscin that is in a higher-than-normal state of oxidation.” After reading several blog posts, Caitlyn decided to take a home pregnancy test which came back positive. When she went in for a check up at the hospital, doctors were shocked that despite being 7 month pregnant, her belly wasn’t showing.

Caitlyn can’t believe that a blue toilet seat led her to ultimately learn about her pregnancy. “It’s just such a crazy story. A lot of people are just in disbelief when I tell them,” she told CafeMom, adding, “Everyone is over the moon excited, but also just can’t believe how this all turned out!”
