After a long and extremely emotional wait, an Arizona couple hearts were filled when they welcomed their son Finnley in October 2021.
Not only were Cary and Tim Patonai overjoyed to welcome their third child, but Cary’s labor and delivery team were also excited because Finnley, who was born two weeks early, was one of the biggest babies they ever delivered.
“Finnley was a little celebrity at the hospital. Everyone wanted a selfie with him,” Cary told TODAY Parents.
They suffered two miscarriages in between their second and third child and 17 miscarriages prior to having their second child.
“Two of the miscarriages were sets of twins,” Cary said. “It was was traumatic for the whole family — especially our oldest child. Each loss would break his little heart.”
However, they never gave up hope.
Finally, Cary got pregnant. And while her two older sons, Devlen, 10, and Everett, 2, were born weighing more than the average baby, neither parent had any idea how much their third child would weigh.
“They were like, oh my God, I can’t believe he’s so big, they couldn’t wait to get him on the scale,” Cary recalled the doctor and nurses saying after she delivered Finnley.
Finnley weighed 14 pounds, 1 ounce and measured 23.75 inches.
“The OB/GYN who performed the C-section said that in 27 years he had never seen a newborn that size. There was so much excitement in the delivery.”
Now after so much heartbreak, their family is complete.
“Our family is finally complete,” Cary said. “He’s absolutely perfect.”
May God bless the Patonai family.
