A delighted mother’s Facebook post gained significant attention after she shared her son’s compassionate deed. He faced a pivotal moment at his workplace when he had to choose between kindness and indifference, and his choice left a lasting impact on him.
One evening, Matthew Resendez was on duty at Burger King when a homeless man approached the counter. The man tentatively asked Matthew, “What can I purchase for 50 cents?”
Matthew wasted no time choosing the meal from the menu, for the man. Without any hesitation, he used his debit card to pay for it… That’s different from where the story ends. A generous customer witnessed Matthews’s act and was inspired to pay it forward by giving him a $100 bill. After finishing his shift Matthew happily shared this incident with his mother, Michelle Resendez, who took to Facebook to express her joy. Here is what she wrote:
I felt a sense of pride, as a parent when I witnessed a heartwarming moment involving my son, Matthew. While he was working at the restaurant tonight a homeless man walked in with 50 cents desperately looking for something to satisfy his hunger. When Matthew asked about the man’s food preferences he simply expressed gratitude for anything that could ease his hunger. Without any hesitation, Matthew decided to ring up a meal for him and took it upon himself to pay using his debit card. He handed the receipt to the man. Encouraged him to find a seat and relax.
At this point, one might assume that this touching story ends there. However, there was another person who witnessed my son’s act of kindness. A woman. Not did she take the initiative to contact the restaurant and commend their employee but she also went above and beyond, by rewarding Matthew with an incredibly generous tip.
As a mother words cannot fully capture the pride I feel for my son. His unwavering compassion and kind-heartedness are a testament, to the values I have instilled in him through nurturing and guidance.
Over 40,000 people have been deeply touched by Michelle’s post all coming together in the belief that the world needs individuals, like Matthew. If you want to read heartwarming stories like this, simply click the buttons below to subscribe to The Daily Headline.
